Inclusive Education is Education for all. This means education must be provided to meet the needs of all children despite their disabilities or other aspects that may hinder their access to quality education and equal participation .
CREATIVE SELF HELP INCLUSIVE EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTRE-(CSHIERC) IN MADANG
CSHIERC in Madang ensures that children with disabilities have access to education and equal participation through the following programmes.
1. Centre-Based Education: Supporting Children with Disabilities (CWDs) and their caregivers.
· Conduct Early Intervention Programmes.
· Directly teach academic/social skills
· Run “Bridging to School” teaching groups using Individual Education Plan (IEP).
· Conduct Vocational Life Skills Programme.
· Facilitate trainings for teachers, volunteers and caregivers.
· Conduct Sign Language Trainings for communication with the deaf.
2. School-Based Education: Provide support for teachers of CWDs.
· Conduct in-service trainings
· Assist with assessments, IEP development, programme planning, and teaching methods.
· Demonstrate techniques and teaching strategies(ability grouping, behavior management, peer tutoring)
· Provide sign language training if needed.
· Establish a support network.
· Monitor progress of CWDs and evaluate the programme.
· Continue to support the teacher.
3. Home-Based Education: Bridging to School-preparing the child for school.
· Assess current skills and needs
· Develop IEP as a team
· Model and teach skills to caregiver/volunteer
· Conduct Rehabilitation Programmes
· Monitor CWDs & evaluate programme,
· Provide functional education.
· Assess current skills & needs.
4. Community-Based Programme
· Conduct Awareness Programmes
· Conduct Vision & Hearing Screenings
· Identify CWDs.
· Make appropriate referrals
· Follow up
